I finally posted all my saved drafts.

They popped up in chronological order mixed in with my other posts from the past 2 weeks-- nothing too excited but I guess if you're bored it might be worth it to go back through and read them. (and my pregnant announcement got moved back so that it is in chronological order as well).

You will have a million people giving you tons of advice, and they'll have actually gone through this, but I'll add this:

When I talked to my friend Molly this weekend she told me about having her baby and how awful it was because they ended up in a big anonymous hospital with a doctor they barely knew, and all this pressure NOT to breastfeed because it was more work for the hospital staff to help her than to just fix a bottle. They got at her when she was just out of labor and freaked out and keep telling her her baby was going to die if she didn't do what they said. Only b/c her husband was there and wasn't so freaked out and remembered all the research they'd done together and talked her through it did she insist on not using formula. And the baby learned to nurse and everything was fine. Apparently when a baby gets hungry enough, it gets a lot smarter about breastfeeding.

My point is: know what you want beforehand and MAKE THAT CLEAR to people you trust to speak up for you if you're too exhausted/freaked out to do it. If you want a doula or a midwife, look into it. Remember, you don't have to stay with the first doctor you choose if you don't like him/her. But mostly, this is a huge deal for you and your family, and you should control the process--not just take orders from medical staff.

Says the woman who's closest experience to childbirth was all those stupid lambs I had to watch being born last spring.
